The roster
Gamut's roster window acts akin to a basic IM client's "buddy list". As you make friends within Volity, you can add them to your roster and keep tabs on their online activity.
When you create a new volity.net account, you will begin with an empty roster. To add a name to it, click the roster window's Add button and typing in someone's Volity ID. That person will receive notification that you wish to add them, and they will have the chance to accept your request or deny it. The person's name will not appear on your roster until they accept. (In both cases, if the request's recipient doesn't happen to be online, then the volity.net server will present it to them the next time they log in.)
Note: If you start your Gamut usage with an existing Jabber ID, such as a gmail.com or jabber.org address, then your roster window will be populated by any contacts you may have already accrued, and any changes you make will affect your roster view on other Jabber clients as well.
Once you populate your roster with some friendly players' names, you can click their names to highlight them and then use the buttons at the top of the window to chat with them or look at their Volity game stats. You can also right-click (Mac: control-click) on a name in your roster to bring up a contextual menu with the following commands:
- Chat With User
- Same as highlighting their name and clicking the Chat button.
- Delete User
- Same as highlighting their name and clicking the Delete button.
- Invite To
- If you have any table windows open, then this menu option expands into a list of them. Selecting one will invite the person to join you at that table.
- Game Stats
- Launches your web browser and carries you to a page on the volity.net website where you can review this person's game-playing history and other info.
The color and symbol of each name's little "head-and-shoulders" icon also shows the person's current online status, as well as whether they have the ability play Volity games at the moment.
- Green
- This person is online and active.
- Yellow
- This person is online but idle or otherwise unavailable.
- Gray
- This person is offline.
- Triangle symbol
- This person is using Gamut or another Volity client, and can play games.
