The game finder

The game finder tells you, at a glance, what games are currently active across the Volity Network. To bring up the game finder window in Gamut, select Window→Game Finder, or Game→Show Game Finder.

The game finder is basically a little website that runs within Gamut. Its front page shows you a list of all the different types of games currently available. Clicking on any of them brings you to another page with details about that game, including a description, links to its rules (if available), and a list of Volity parlors that play the game.

A Volity parlor is a server on the network that knows how to play a certain game. To start a new game, click on a parlor's name in the game finder shown in this illustration. This will open a separate table window, which is where a new game takes place.

The game finder also lists tables that other people have already started. Its front page lists all the open tables on the system, and games' individual pages list any tables that are playing those particular games. You may join an open table by clicking on its name; this again causes a table window to appear. If that table contains people already engaged in game play, you'll automatically start to watch the game progress once the table's graphics load.

It's good to keep the game finder window open in the background while you use Gamut, since it automatically updates itself as games and table come and go.
